Jazz is lived. Jazz is a part of you. It comes from someplace inside your soul deep down. Its a place that when you can tap into it, can open amazing windows into the soul. Often that place is dark and scary but that’s what makes it beautiful.
Nina Simone lived jazz and had the scars to show for it.
Its rare to find an artist whose voice becomes more than just their tool but rather their method for social change. Nina Simone is one of those rare people.
I love Nina Simone for many many reasons, her style, her voice, her politics, her bravery, but the thing I love most is this; her pain. Its so relatable and so honest and real and it comes out in everything else she does.
The song that inspires me for day 2 of #40DaysofIndie is “Please don’t let me be misunderstood”
